Warning – Regular Stamps Expires in January 2023

After 31st January 2023, regular stamps without a barcode* will no longer be valid and may result in a penalty fee.

Luckily the expiry date is after Christmas, so send a couple more cards or You can either use up these stamps before this deadline or swap them for the new barcoded ones.

After January 31st 2023, stamps with the Queen’s head and ‘1st’ or ‘2nd’ class written on them (as well as first-class large letter and second-class large letter stamps. International tariff stamps and all ‘make-up-value stamps’) will no longer be usable, meaning to use them, you will have to pay a surcharge.

The only exception is ‘special’ commemorative stamps, such as the Doctor Who collection, as these will continue to work until after January 31st 2023.

Royal Mail will let you ‘swap out’ any stamps that are due to expire for free. You will be able to exchange current stamps for barcoded ones for free under Royal Mail’s new ‘Swap Out’ scheme, which opened on March 31st 2022 and will run until March 31st 2023.

This will be via a ‘Swap Out’ form on the Royal Mail website. And You’ll then have to post the no longer valid stamps back.

Social Behaviour Patterns

I’m a big fan of making new friends. Can one have “too many friends”? I would say yes. The point that I HAVE reached is one where people are now coming out of the woodwork to use me in finding them an IT solution of sort. My question is this – why do these people insist on changing back into associates, once we’ve become friends? I believe the answer is simple; society’s addiction to the “quick reward” is now reaching into people’s lives. The syndrome of “want it fast, want it now” has a side effect of leaving friends, family, co-workers and everything else around them “out to dry”, like remnants after a new carpet install, or leftovers after a good meal. I for one, don’t enjoy feeling like a doggy-bag.

  1. An acquaintance/associate is a person you know, but who is not a close friend. It’s the person you run into in the hallway or feel comfortable meeting in a group setting, but usually not by yourself.
  2. A casual friend is a person you are more emotionally attached to. You feel comfortable meeting with this person one on one.
  3. A close friend is a person you spend time with regularly and can depend on. You feel comfortable reaching out to this person at any time.
  4. An intimate friend is someone you can share anything with.

Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people. It is a stronger form of interpersonal bond than an “acquaintance” or an “associate”, such as a classmate, neighbour, co-worker, or colleague.

Acquaintance, on the other hand, refer to those we have met but do not know well. In general, the noun associate refers to colleagues or people we work with; in other words, those we know in a professional context.

Associate and acquaintance are two words we usually use to refer to people we have met but are not as close as friends.
In general, the noun associate refers to colleagues or people we work with; in other words, those we know in a professional context. But if we happen to run into each other again, that’s great. It would be rude not to speak with acquaintances when you see them, but it is not expected that you make plans to see them intentionally.

A casual friend can be someone from work with whom you occasionally eat lunch or attend work-related conferences.  You probably wouldn’t call on a casual friend to help you change a flat tire or pick you up at the airport.

A close friend is someone who makes an effort to help when you need it and can be depended upon to keep their word. In close friendships, you are comfortable discussing the things that go on in your day-to-day life, both good and bad. You share your secrets, commiserate with one another on the bad days, and celebrate with one another on the good days.

In an intimate friendship, there are few topics that are ever off-limits. The intimate friend is one who can point out your flaws and offer suggestions for improvement, and while it may be difficult to hear, it isn’t offensive because you understand how deeply they care for you (and you’re willing to do the same for them). The difference between a close friendship and an intimate friendship is primarily time. A close friendship that withstands the ups and downs of life over an extended period of time is considered an intimate friendship.

Hedgehogs

If you see me in your yard/garden,
please put out some food (cat croquettes…)
and some water (rain when possible).

hedgehog

Don’t give me milk, I’ll drink it but I’ll feel bad.

Don’t put insecticides out, PLEASE!
I’m harmless and an opportunity for your garden
because I feed on bugs that attack vegetables.

My species is dying!

Help me stay alive!

Yabby Dabby Doo a way overdue job, done!

Not solely by myself, but as my garden lady has stopped for winter I asked if I could hire her for a heavy-duty lifting job, to which she agreed.

I didn’t take a picture before she started, but this is what’s either going to the Skip, Freegle, Nextdoor or belonging to DJKA.

Everything in the foreground (bar the green barrel) is for charity i.e. Freegle and Nextdoor. The green barrel has been stored near the camper. The rest is for the Skip. 1½ car load and there is way more to go.

I was glad that Sarah loaded and unloaded my car.

Now all I have to do is getting pictures and advertising everything on the web.

Sadly, I had to put things back into my garage for storage until people come and collect. I also placed my economic electric heater to get rid of some of the dampness. I can’t remember when I last had that much floor space in the garage-extension.

The triumph of a Gardener

My gardener was here the other day and she found this snail nursery; don’t tell me that 13 is an unlucky number (but for the snails to-be it was)

clip_image002

And a little later she found this snail kindergarten/graveyard:

there were also two baby frogs – and I think they ate all ‘the kids and the teacher’ in the kindergarten, because of all the empty houses. Sorry frogs; but the evidence had to be destroyed, so no more easy dinner, but there are enough other snails in my garden, I just can’t show you the way!

Another fortnight has evaporated since the Op

The arm-sling is off and it found its way to the dustbin. I think we were maximum 5 minutes with the doctor, who looked at the scar poked a bit and checked my movements showed me the x-rays of the new shoulder, and answered 4 of 5 questions, wrote my release from surgery note and a referral note to the physio department.
The last question was “when can I start driving again”?
This is depending on the physio from MK-hospital.

.

My Total Shoulder Replacement & Recovery

I had my shoulder replacement on the 24th of June, all went well, but I had to stay at the hospital for 9 days until a bed was available in a convalescent home.

I was so lucky to get a placement at Waterhall Care Home in Bletchley. The food was quite good and it was definitely way better than hospital food. The place was absolutely fantastic – a generous single room with an on suite bathroom, shower & wc – and with 24/7 nursing/careers at hand and a daily physio who helped speed up my mobility and strengthen  my arm muscles, plus assuring me that the pain I sometimes felt was not a warning of a possible dislocation. He was very understanding and caring. The carers were always happy and friendly, even when run off their feet. Their title fully described them as they were making each patient feel special. The fortnight I stayed there just flew away.

The stitches/clips (32 of them) came out on the 9th, the plaster came off on the 13th, I was released from the care home on the 17th and my post-op-appointment – with the surgeon/specialist who performed the operation – is on the 1st August when the sling will come off. I hope to be able to use my arm by then and maybe get permission to drive.

Most of all I am so grateful to my friends – HC, DJKA, VR & PO – who were doing all the running around getting me this & that.  Also a very special thanks to my ICE person who is now looking after me until the post-op appointment.

I am a happy pampered bunny.

Parking dispute at no.31

There was a person parking on my garage forecourt Sunday-Monday.
I had a doctors appointment at 10am and couldn’t get out of my garage.
I had never seen that car in the area before, so I didn’t know where it came from.

Anyway I got a taxi to and from the surgery and when I was back home the car had gone.
But low and behold, at 2pm the car was back! Swear, swear … more swear!
So I checked online what I could do and everything I read was contradictory.

Hence me writing the following words, printing them and sticking the print onto the windscreen.

Private property of number 31
Please DO NOT PARK here ever again
You owe me £6 for taxi as I couldn’t get my car out this morning

After which the car disappeared.

When I got home late Thursday-Friday night, I found a letter in my letterbox with £20 and a letter from the guilty person:

Dear no. 31,
I extend my sincerest apologies for parking across your garage a couple of days ago.
I mistakenly thought it was part of no.30, but it was gross misjudgement on my part. Your actions were completely justified.

Please accept this as my goodwill gesture to you. I hope it helps bury the hatchet. It’ll never happen again.

You owe me £6 for a taxi, as I couldn’t get my car out this morning.

I can only say many thanks the the owner of the car for his/hers kind gesture.

Lunch at Café Lindevang

I took my friends out for lunch on the last day in Denmark. We went to “Cafè Lindevang” på Peter Bangs Vejen. It’s a place where you get good old-fashioned traditional Danish smørebrød (open sandwiches), and I would dare anyone to order and eat two portions. I know out of experience that the portions are gigantic; but check the pictures and judge for yourself.
2018-04-16 15.26.34     2018-04-16 15.26.41
2x Pan fried plaice fillets w.Shrimp — 1x Prawns w. mayonnaise
2018-04-16 15.49.57   2018-04-16 15.51.17
Tatar w raw egg yolk and garnish — 2” Burger w Fried Egg
2018-04-16 15.53.24   Fillet of pork with fried onions
I was struggling even though the portions were smaller than last time I was there.
I would have preferred to have a starter split 3 ways followed by the main open sandwich. Yes, there is bread under the mountain of meat, its not gravy nor shadow its bread.
